Sault College CougarsThe fourth annual Cougar Classic basketball tournament is a unique event to Northern Ontario. One of its primary goals is to recognize the participants as student-athletes who demonstrate leadership qualities and showcase their basketball skills.

12 teams that include Korah Colts, St. Mary's Knights, St. Basil Saints, Superior Heights Steelhawks, Churchill Trojans, CASS Huskies, Korah JV, SMC JV, White Pines Wolverines, Spartans Superior Gryphons and the LoEllen Knights will take part in the junior division.

In the senior division, 10 teams will part including the Lasalle Lancers, White Pines Wolverines, Churchill Trojans, Manitoulin Mustangs, St. Ignatius Falcons, St. Mary's Knights, St. Basil Saints, Korah Colts, Hammerskjolt Vikings and the CASS Huskies.

Algoma U Thunderbirds Men and Women Lose to the Windsor Lancers

algoma u thunderbirdsOn September 29th, the Algoma Thunderbirds soccer teams were denied once again at home on the weekend, this time at the hands of the Windsor Lancers.

In the women's action, the Thunderbirds dropped decisions to the Lancers by 11-1 on both Saturday and Sunday. Advancing to 6-3-0 in the OUA West, the Lancers are currently fourth in the division. For Algoma, newcomer Brooklyn Seatter scored the lone goal on Saturday, bringing her total to two for the season.

NOJHL Thunderbirds Fall to the Elliot Lake Wildcats in Sault Ste Marie

Thunderbirds vs WildcatsThe Soo Thunderbirds and the Elliot Lake Wildcats hit the ice in their first 2014 – 2015 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League regular match-up at the John Rhodes Centre on September 28th. The Thunderbirds entered the game with a record of 2 – 1 while the Wildcats came into Sault Ste Marie with a 4 – 1 record on Sunday evening.

In a fast paced first period with both teams, Wildcat Spencer MacLean sank the first goal of the game at 7:07 of the first on a power play with Alec MacKenize and Cole Hepler contributing to give Elliot Lake a 1 – 0 lead.
