AthleteoftheMonthIn an effort to get to know the great athletes in Sault Ste Marie and Algoma, we showcase an Athlete of the Month that is sponsored by Mrs. B's Pizza of Sault Ste Marie, to introduce a Male and Female who demonstrates a drive to better their fitness and life.

These athlete have shown determination, growth, and the overall will to do their very best. These athletes consistently push themeslves to the limit and are worth recognizing.

Thunderbirds vs Gold MinersThe Soo Thunderbirds boostered their line-up with the return of rugged forward Grant Syrette when the Soo hit the ice in Kirkland Lake to face the Gold Miners on April 17th in the Copeland McNamara Cup final series. The final NOJHL series is tied 1 -1 heading into Thursday's game.

Steve Babin of the Gold Miners opened the scoring for Kirkland Lake at 12:25 of the first with assists from Everett Thompson and Jeremy Picard-Fiset to give the hosts a 1 – 0 lead.

Big Game in Kirkland Lake for Soo Thunderbirds and Gold Miners in NOJHL Copeland McNamara Cup Series

Thunderbirds vs Gold MinersThursday April 17th in Kirkland Lake will be the biggest night of the season for the Gold Miners and Soo Thunderbirds.

Leading the league in assists is rookie defenseman Owen Headrick of the Soo Thunderbirds. Headricks has 10 assists and 2 goals. With his 12 points in the playoffs, Owen is in a three way tie in the playoff scoring race along with Ryan Tront of Abitibi Eskimos and teammate Darcy haines who has 6 goals and 6 assists heading into game 3 of the series.

Korah Badminton Athletes Dominate in NOSSA Championships in Sault Ste Marie

BadmintonOver 200 badminton from Northern Ontario converged on Sault Ste Marie and took part in 2014 Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics Badminton Championships at White Pines on April 11th and 12th.

In the team titles, the Korah Colts brought home four out of five titles with Midget Team Champion (The Larry Bobbie Trophy), Junior Team Trophy (The Jim Muchmore Trophy) Korah with MacDonald Cartier and the Senior Team Trophy (The Bumbacco Trophy).  Sudbury took home the Overall District Winner (The Lucio Fabris Trophy) for 2014.
