Midget Black Sox Drop Two in Alpena

Playing with only six players off their regular roster, the Cambrian Nissan Midget Black Sox fell short on both ends of a double header in Alpena, Mich. against the Summercats in Great Lakes Baseball League play.
The Black Sox played with three call-ups from the Elks 341 Bantam Black Sox – Beau Nolan, Zack Duchesene & Owen Headrick – in the games and all three played well in their first Great Lakes Baseball League action.
In game one, Alpena came away with an 8-3 win. Kris Kerr started on the mound and lasted five innings, striking out six and keeping the game close in the process. Alpena opened the game by scoring once in the first inning. The Black Sox responded with two runs in their half of the third, with Kerr driving in two on a single. Alpena opened up the score by putting up three runs in the third and four more in the fourth.

Alpena ended the game with 11 hits. The heart of the batting order led the way offensively for Alpena. Ben Gould had two doubles and a single, Brady Marwede had two singles and Tony Garot stroked three singles in the game and was the winning pitcher for the Summercats. The Black Sox offense was lead by Jeb Pallot with three singles. Kerr had two singles and knocked in two runs while Collin McAuley had a single, walk and drove in a run. Brad Manson also singled in the loss.
In the final game of the night, Alpena spread the hits throughout the entire line-up with six different players hitting singles. Alpena scored runs in each of the first three innings and added four more in the fourth while leaving 11 runners on base with in an 8-1 victory. Jeb Pallot started on the mound and went the first four innings with Jordan Pine coming on in relief.
The only Black Sox run came in the sixth inning when McAuley drove in Kerr from second base. McAuley had two singles in the loss while Pallot, Kerr and Pine all contributed singles.
The Black Sox conclude the GLBL with a home-and-home series against the EUP Travellers. The Sox play in Sault, Mich. on July 24th and then host the Travellers on July 31 at Sinclair Yards to finish up league play.
The Black Sox will also host the Sudbury Hitmen in double header action on Saturday July 28th.
