The St. Mary's Knights who finished first overall in the 2013 – 2014 Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League standings while the Korah Colts came in second place behind the Knights. The Knights record heading into the playoffs was 19 – 0 – 1 and the Colts finished the season with a record of 12 – 4 – 4 record.
Going into the 2013 – 2014 City Championships, the Korah Colts are believed to be the underdogs to win the 2013 – 2014 Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League title against the St. Mary's Knights on Monday evening at the Essar Centre.
The Korah Colts and the Superior Heights Steelhawks hit the ice on Friday February 21st at the Essar Centre in the third game of the best of three series in the Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League semi-final. The winner of the third game will face the St. Mary's Knights in the 2014 City Championships.
Neither team found the net in a tight fast paced first period of the third semi-final game.
The Superior Heights Steelhawks and the Korah Colts will battle it out for a chance to advance to the Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League city championships against the St. Mary's Knights Friday evening at 7:00 p.m at the Essar Centre.
In the first game of the semi-final on February 16th at the Essar Centre between the Steelhawks and the Colts, the regular season second place Colts shutout third place Superior Heights with a score of 3 – 0 over the Steelhawks.
On Wednesday evening at the John Rhodes Centre in Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League playoffs, the St. Mary's Knights took on the St. Basil Saints in game two of a best of three series where the Knights won the first game 5 – 4 in overtime.
At 5:32 of the first period, Michael Avati scored the Knights first goal of the game with an unassisted goal behind Saints netminder Michael Chilelli to give St. Mary's a 1 – 0 lead.
In the second game of a best of three series between the Korah Colts and the Superior Heights Steelhawks, the Colts hit the ice on Wednesday evening with a 1 – 0 game lead in the Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League semi-final at 6:30 p.m at the John Rhodes.
With Jarret Litalien in the penalty box for boarding for the Colts, the Steelhawks Austin Maccarone opened the scoring at the 4:22 mark of the first period on a power plat for Superior Heights. Mark McLean and Nathan Elgie assisted on Maccarone's goal.
